Livigno
Italy
Little Tibet of the Alps.
Information about the Resort
Livigno is possibly one of the most underrated ski resorts in the Alps. It is most probably because of its low accessibility. During the winter a narrow one lane tunel Munt la Schera and a high alpine road through Passo del Foscagno are the only connections to the outside world. Due to its high altitude and secluded location between the Bernina Mountain Range to the south and the Ortles – Cevedale Mountain Range to the east it has gained the nickname Little Tibet. The village has preserved its traditional character with many old buildings being used to this day. From December to May, the cold, dry climate assures snow on the resort’s 115 km of slopes, which range from 1816 m to 2950 m in altitude. Snowboarders can choose between 3 snowparks: Snowpark Amerikan (the newest addition to Livigno), Snowpark Mottolino (replete with superpipe, halfpipe, rails and kickers), and Livigno Park Carosello 3000 (located on the Polvere trail and served by the Carosello 3000 gondola). Thanks to its remoteness Livigno has been granted a duty free zone status in 1840, making it a perfect location for bargain seekers. Besides skiing the village offers a wide range of activities. Visitors can try bobsledding, tubing, snowshoeing ice skating, snowmobiling, go-kart and car driving on the ice, snow biking and horseback riding in the snow.
