Destination overview
Two resorts. One high mountain domain.
At the head of the Tarentaise Valley, Tignes–Val d’Isère links two of France's best-known ski resorts across roughly 300 km of pistes. Formerly known as Espace Killy, the domain combines long groomed descents, steep faces and glacier terrain. Its high slopes make it a strong early- and late-season option, though openings always depend on weather and snow.
The two bases feel different. Tignes is modern and ski-focused, with purpose-built accommodation close to the lifts. Val d’Isère combines a traditional Alpine village with upscale hotels, restaurants and lively après-ski. We choose the base around the group's budget, evening preferences and priority terrain.
Strong intermediates can enjoy substantial mileage, while advanced skiers and freeriders have open bowls, steep slopes and high-mountain routes to explore. Off-piste travel, especially near glaciers, involves avalanche and crevasse hazards. Qualified local guidance, suitable equipment and current conditions are essential.
