Destination overview
Three ski areas beneath the giants.
Few Alpine ski settings can match the scale of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. The Jungfrau Ski Region has three distinct areas rather than one continuous circuit, so the day can change character with the weather, the group and the mountain you choose.
Grindelwald–Wengen, around Kleine Scheidegg and Männlichen, is the largest sector. Long intermediate pistes unfold beneath the Eiger, and parts of the famous Lauberhorn World Cup downhill course can be skied by visitors. Grindelwald–First has a younger, more relaxed feel, with the White Elements Snowpark, approachable runs and freeride possibilities when conditions are right. Non-skiers can also try the First Flyer zipline.
Mürren–Schilthorn rises to approximately 2,970 m and offers steeper pistes and serious expert off-piste terrain. Mürren's Inferno Race adds almost a century of sporting history to the mountain. Higher still, Jungfraujoch at 3,454 m is a remarkable glacier-view sightseeing excursion, not part of the connected ski pistes. Grindelwald, car-free Wengen and car-free Mürren each make a very different base for the week.

Snow character & trip fit
The advantages—and the trade-offs.
The Jungfrau region suits travellers who value remarkable scenery and varied days more than a single seamless lift circuit. We plan area changes and transport around the group, then use qualified guidance for expert off-piste terrain.
Pros
  • The Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau form one of the most dramatic ski backdrops in the Alps.
  • Grindelwald–Wengen, First and Mürren–Schilthorn each offer a different skiing character.
  • The Lauberhorn World Cup course and Mürren Inferno Race give the region a distinctive ski heritage.
  • Grindelwald, Wengen and Mürren offer a choice of lively town and traditional car-free villages.
  • Experienced skiers can find demanding guided freeride around Mürren–Schilthorn when conditions permit.
Cons
  • The three ski areas are separate; moving between them takes planning and sometimes transport.
  • Swiss accommodation, lifts, dining and mountain transport make this an expensive ski week.
  • Lower pistes can be vulnerable to warm weather even when upper-mountain snow remains good.
  • Popular runs, sightseeing attractions and transport connections can be busy in peak periods.
